Where Mango Leaf Is Used

The Grade Decision

More consequential here than on most ingredients, because the grades are not points on a single scale.

GradeCharacterChoose when
Native ratio 10:1 / 20:1Whole leaf profile"Mango leaf" is the product story
Mangiferin 10%Leaf extract, moderate assayGeneral supplement blends
Mangiferin 20%Leaf extract, higher assayMetabolic and sports formats
Mangiferin 60%Purified, mangiferin-ledCompound delivery in minimal mass

The 60% grade is not simply a stronger leaf extract. Reaching that concentration requires purification that removes much of the leaf's supporting phenolic profile. If your marketing describes a mango leaf ingredient and your formulation uses a 60% purified mangiferin, those two statements are in some tension — and, as covered in our source verification guide, it is also the grade where botanical origin is hardest to confirm analytically.

Handling

Solubility

Partially water-soluble in the standard grades — adequate for capsules, tablets and dry blends. Clear beverages need a soluble grade specified up front; mangiferin itself has limited water solubility, which is a real constraint for liquid formats rather than a formulation preference.

Taste

Bitter and astringent. In teas this is part of the character; in beverages it needs a masking strategy; in capsules it is irrelevant.

Stability

A polyphenol-rich leaf extract: hygroscopic, sensitive to prolonged light exposure, stable enough under normal dry storage. Shelf life is 24 months rather than the 36 we give root and bark extracts, which reflects composition rather than any safety consideration.

Combinations

Sits conventionally alongside gymnema, bitter melon, fenugreek and cinnamon in metabolic blends, and with green tea and pomegranate in antioxidant formats.

The Allergen Note

Rarely stated on supplier documentation, and worth raising because the consequence lands on cosmetic formulators.

Mango belongs to the Anacardiaceae — the family that also contains cashew, pistachio and poison ivy. Mango plant material contains constituents related to those responsible for contact reactions in sensitised individuals, and reactions to mango sap and peel are documented, particularly in people sensitised to related plants.

ApplicationConsideration
Oral supplements, normal inclusionNot generally treated as a significant concern
Topical / cosmeticA question for your safety assessor
Products for cashew- or nut-sensitised consumersWorth explicit consideration

We are not making a safety determination for your product — that belongs to your assessor. We are making sure the question is visible before a topical launch rather than after.

Claims

Metabolic and blood-sugar claims are tightly controlled everywhere and generally unavailable for botanicals in the EU. Positioning that describes the ingredient and the mangiferin content, rather than asserting a physiological outcome, is the route that travels.

For EU launches, also confirm the novel food position for your specific grade — and note that the answer for a 60% purified grade may differ from that for a 10% leaf extract. That determination belongs with your regulatory reviewer.

Specifying With Us

Tell us the format, the market, whether the product is topical, and whether "mango leaf" is load-bearing in your product story. Those four answers determine the grade. Send us your requirement.
