The Three Sensory Constraints

Before format selection, understand what neem brings uninvited:

PropertyCharacterMatters most in
ColourGreenish-brown, strongPale creams, clear gels, white pastes
OdourDistinctive, penetrating, persistentLeave-on cosmetics, oral care
BitternessIntenseAnything oral

All three are addressable, but each costs something — a low-colour grade, a masking system, a rinse-off format. Design around them from the start rather than discovering them at pilot scale.

Grade Selection

Skin Care — the Core Cosmetic Application

Neem's largest and most straightforward use. It is among the most consumer-recognised botanicals for skin-purifying and clarifying positioning, which is genuine marketing value.

Scalp and Hair Care

Oral Care

A genuinely heritage application — neem twigs have been used as chewing sticks across the subcontinent for centuries, so the positioning is factual rather than constructed.

Nutraceutical and Internal Formats

The application requiring most care, and worth being direct about.

Traditional and Ayurvedic Formats

Home and Pet Care

A quieter but real channel — natural cleaning formulations, pet grooming, textile treatments. Colour and odour matter far less here, which makes standard grade entirely suitable and the economics more favourable.

Note: if a product's positioning approaches insect-repellent or pest-control claims, that moves it toward a regulated agricultural or biocidal category in most markets. Cosmetic and cleaning claims are a different regulatory space from pest-control claims, and the line matters.

SV Botanica supplies these grades with the plant part declared and azadirachtin reported per batch. Tell us the format — particularly whether it is leave-on or rinse-off — and we will advise which grade fits. See the neem extract product page or the market and applications overview.
