Omega-3 Fish Oil

EPA + DHA Concentrate Molecularly Distilled TG & EE Forms TOTOX Tested
The world's most clinically studied nutraceutical ingredient — 35,000+ published studies, essential for every cardiovascular, cognitive, prenatal, and anti-inflammatory supplement formulation.
Omega-3 fatty acids are classified as essential because the human body cannot produce EPA and DHA from simpler precursors in meaningful quantities — they must come from diet or supplementation. Marine-sourced omega-3s from fatty fish are the only reliable, concentration-proven source of preformed EPA and DHA that the body can use directly, without the inefficient ALA-to-EPA/DHA conversion that limits plant-based omega-3 sources (flaxseed, chia).

SV Botanica supplies pharmaceutical-grade fish oil concentrate in four EPA/DHA grades, processed by molecular distillation — the only purification method capable of removing mercury, dioxins, PCBs, and other persistent organic pollutants to below detectable limits while preserving full fatty acid integrity. Every batch is tested for TOTOX value (freshness), fatty acid profile by GC, and full contaminant panel before release.

    Quality Assurance

    Purity, Freshness & Full Traceability

Fish oil quality is uniquely complex — it requires testing for oxidation, contaminants, and fatty acid potency simultaneously. We do all three on every batch.

    01

    Molecular distillation

Removes mercury, PCBs, dioxins, and other persistent pollutants to below detection limits while preserving fatty acid integrity.

    02

    TOTOX & freshness

Peroxide Value (PV ≤5), Anisidine Value (AV ≤20), and TOTOX (≤26) tested per GOED standard on every batch. No rancid oil.

    03

    GC fatty acid profile

Full fatty acid composition by gas chromatography — confirms EPA%, DHA%, total omega-3, and absence of trans fatty acids per batch.

    04

    Contaminant screening

Mercury (NMT 0.1 ppm), lead, arsenic, PCBs, dioxins, and furans — tested and certified clean before every shipment.

    Formulator's Guide

    Choosing the Right EPA/DHA Grade

The correct omega-3 grade depends on your target health benefit, capsule size constraints, and cost positioning. Here is how each grade is used in commercial supplement formulations.

    18/12 Grade

    EPA 18% · DHA 12%

Natural concentrate — closest to natural fish oil fatty acid profile. Economical entry-level grade for general omega-3 supplements. Requires larger capsule sizes (1,000–2,000 mg softgel) to deliver meaningful EPA/DHA doses. Standard softgel fish oil.

    33/22 Grade

    EPA 33% · DHA 22%

Standard pharmaceutical concentrate. Delivers a combined 550 mg EPA+DHA per 1,000 mg capsule. The industry benchmark for labelled "500 mg EPA+DHA" softgels. Ideal balance of concentration, cost, and bioavailability.

    High-EPA 50/20

    EPA 50% · DHA 20%

Concentrated high-EPA grade for cardiovascular, anti-inflammatory, and mental health formulations where EPA is the primary active. Allows high-dose EPA delivery in standard softgel sizes. Used in Rx-adjacent products.

    High-DHA

    DHA ≥40% · Low EPA

DHA-dominant grade for prenatal supplements, infant and children's formulations, and cognitive health products where DHA (not EPA) is the priority active. Available on request for large volumes.

    Buyer FAQs

Common Questions about Omega-3 Fish Oil Sourcing

TOTOX (Total Oxidation Value) = 2× Peroxide Value + Anisidine Value. It measures the overall oxidative rancidity of a fish oil — both primary oxidation products (peroxides) and secondary aldehydes from peroxide breakdown. The GOED (Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s) standard specifies TOTOX ≤26. Rancid fish oil with high TOTOX has reduced EPA/DHA potency, stronger fishy off-odour and taste, and may produce harmful oxidation by-products. Many low-cost suppliers ship oil exceeding these limits. SV Botanica tests and certifies TOTOX on every batch before shipment.
Natural fish oil is in Triglyceride (TG) form — fatty acids attached to a glycerol backbone, identical to dietary fats. Ethyl Ester (EE) is produced by transesterification (replacing glycerol with ethanol) during concentration — it enables higher EPA/DHA levels but has lower bioavailability than TG (~73% relative absorption). Re-esterified Triglyceride (rTG) reconverts EE back to TG form after concentration, restoring natural bioavailability at high potency — at a price premium. SV Botanica supplies both TG and EE forms; rTG available on request.
Our fish oil is sourced from small, short-lived pelagic fish — anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus), sardine (Sardina pilchardus), and mackerel — from certified fisheries in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean. Small pelagic fish are the gold-standard source because their short lifespan prevents accumulation of environmental contaminants (mercury, PCBs) that concentrate in large predatory fish like tuna, shark, or swordfish. Molecular distillation removes residual contaminants to below detection limits.
Fish oil oxidises rapidly when exposed to oxygen, heat, or light. Bulk oil is shipped in nitrogen-flushed, sealed, opaque drums with mixed tocopherols (0.1–0.2%) added as antioxidant. Ideal storage is at 4–10°C. Avoid prolonged storage above 20°C. Once opened, reseal under nitrogen immediately. For finished softgel manufacturing, nitrogen flushing of the encapsulation environment is strongly recommended. Shelf life is 24 months from manufacture date under recommended cold-chain conditions.
Every shipment includes: COA with fatty acid profile (GC), EPA%, DHA%, total omega-3%, TOTOX, Peroxide Value, Anisidine Value, Acid Value; heavy metals report (Hg, Pb, As, Cd); PCBs and dioxin screening certificate; MSDS; Phytosanitary Certificate; and export documentation. IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) program report, species identification certificate, and Halal/Kosher certificates available on request.
