Aloe supplier qualification is unusually decisive, because two specification clauses separate serious suppliers from the rest: polysaccharides on a carrier-free basis, and aloin as a measured figure. A supplier who accepts both without argument is selling you aloe. One who resists either is selling you something whose composition you cannot establish.
Three Disqualifying Red Flags
- Will not quote polysaccharides on a dry, carrier-free basis. As covered in adulteration and authenticity, an as-sold basis lets a supplier be arithmetically honest while delivering a fraction of the actives. Resistance here is the single most informative response in the whole process.
- Reports aloin as "complies" rather than a figure — or not at all. You cannot build a compliance position on the word "complies", and for ingestibles the aloin number is the position.

The first row is a competence signal. A supplier applying a generic botanical total-ash limit to aloe does not understand their own product — aloe's total ash is characteristically high and the informative figure is acid-insoluble ash.

So a quotation far below the cluster is not a sourcing win to be celebrated; it is a statement about composition to be tested. Collect five quotes, discard the extremes, and interrogate any outlier on carrier-free polysaccharides rather than on price.
The Sample Stage
- Check the CoA states carrier-free polysaccharides and an aloin figure. Absent on the sample, absent on bulk.
- Dissolve it. Genuine aloe gel powder dissolves readily and gives a faintly viscous, slightly hazy solution with characteristic slip. A thin, watery solution with no body suggests heavy carrier.
- Check colour against the claimed process. Decolourised material is white to cream; yellow-brown suggests non-decolourised whole leaf.
- Ask them to describe their decolourisation step. A manufacturer can; a trader cannot.
- Did they ask whether it is ingested? A supplier who does not ask cannot advise on aloin, which is the whole question.

- Nominate an independent laboratory — Eurofins, SGS or Intertek — with carrier-free polysaccharides and aloin in the scope. An as-is polysaccharide result or a ratio-only report reproduces the blind spot completely.
- Compare the independent carrier-free figure against the supplier CoA — the most informative comparison available on this ingredient.
- Verify aloin independently for any ingestible application.
- Retain a sealed, dated sample, tightly closed given the hygroscopicity.
- Re-verify at batch three, then annually, and on any price movement or change of manufacturing site.
