"Organic, 95% standardised" is a phrase that should slow you down. Not because it is always wrong, but because the two halves pull against each other, and the resolution matters.
Where the Tension Comes From
Getting a marker compound from its natural level in the plant — often low single-digit percentages — up to 95% is not gentle work. It typically involves an aggressive extraction followed by crystallisation or repeated purification, and the industrial routes for that lean on solvents that organic standards do not permit.
So the question is not whether a supplier is honest. It is whether the process they describe can physically produce the number they are quoting under the standard they are claiming.
The useful framing: organic constrains the process, and the process constrains the ceiling. A claim that clears the ceiling needs an explanation, and there are legitimate ones.
The Legitimate Explanations
Three, and it is worth knowing them so you do not reject good material:
CO2 extraction. Supercritical CO2 is organic-permitted and can achieve concentrations ethanol cannot on the right botanicals. It is capital-intensive, so it is the exception rather than the default, and it should be named.
The marker is naturally abundant. On some botanicals a high percentage is a modest concentration factor rather than a heroic one. The distance from natural level to claimed level is the thing to look at, not the percentage in isolation.
The number describes something else. Frequently the claim is a total rather than a single compound — total curcuminoids rather than curcumin, total withanolides rather than withanolide glycosides. That is a real and legitimate distinction, and it changes what 95% means.
The Explanation That Should Worry You
No explanation. If a supplier quotes an organic high-standardisation grade and cannot say which solvent produced it or how the assay is defined, you have not been told enough to buy.
Two failure modes sit behind that silence. Either the material is conventionally extracted and the organic certificate covers a different product in the same range — the certificate is real, it just does not cover what is in the drum. Or the number is an inflated assay: read how UV and HPLC produce different figures for the same powder, because that gap is where a lot of impressive percentages live.
How to Specify Without Forcing a Bad Choice
The practical move is to separate what you need from how you are asking for it.

That last row solves most of it. A supplier who names the solvent and the assay is telling you enough to check the claim yourself.
What to Require
- Solvent named, and confirmed as permitted under the destination programme;
- Assay method named — HPLC or UV, single compound or total;
- A transaction certificate covering the specific consignment, not just a scope certificate for the supplier;
- Residual solvent, heavy metals and residues to your market's limits, organic notwithstanding.
